We have personal experience staying at this hotel with kids. During Thanksgiving 2008 we booked in for two days for an extended family getaway. There are several criteria we look for in getting away for a few days. An indoor pool, close to some attractions and cheap. Gaylord National usually runs from $150 to $250 a night. We got lucky and got a room for less than $100 because it was a holiday weekend and the hotel was new.

The pool is incredible it is very large for an indoor pool. The kids had a blast playing all day. The lifeguards and hotel staff were very good, polite and courteous and well trained. There is also a spa which we did not take advantage of but it looked very nice.

The room, I have one word for the room, awesome. We were upgraded to an atrium room; it overlooked what basically is a small indoor mall, with plants, landscaping, restaurants and shops. The atrium must be 20 stories high, it is quite a sight. During the holidays they have a light show every hour that you can view from your hotel balcony.

Attractions
The area, National Harbor is still being built but don’t let that stop you from going. The outdoor shopping and restaurant section are open and ready for business. You can also take a ferry boat to Alexandria VA; we did not because it was kind of cold when we went. Of course you’re only a short trip to all DC area attractions.

Overall this is an upscale very nice hotel, lots of marble and architecture to look. It would be an excellent getaway for an extended weekend in warm or cold weather. My advice is look for room bargains it’s worth the trip.

They are currently running a 4th of July Deal for $139 a night -click here
