This was our first visit and it will not be our last. The aquarium is currently holding it's Christmas Celebration, so the aquarium is decorated for the holidays and the shows have a holiday theme.

We started out in Adventure Zone D, because we wanted to see the hippos. The viewing area to watch them was large and the fish that where in the tank with them were fascinating to watch. Next we made our way over to the Shark Realm, this was the coolest part. We spent a long time in the shark tunnel watching the sharks swimming over us and beside us.

Next we went to Adventure Zone A. This part was neat because we had the chance to touch sand sharks. We also had the chance to see Scuba Santa and one of his elves. Because of the holidays the scuba divers dress in Santa outfits, but even if your there during the non holiday time you can still watch the divers.

We also had the chance to check out Stingray beach which is really cool because not only can you touch a stingray you can put your feet in and walk around where they swim. If you know that your child might be interested in doing something like this make sure they have pants on that can roll up easily.

We loved visiting the Adventure Aquarium. We really liked that they had many opportunities where we could touch animals. At one point we got the chance to touch a jelly fish. There were also lots of hands on exhibits for the kids to learn more about the animals habitats.

The aquarium has a cafeteria where you can purchase food and during warmer weather there is an outdoor seating area so you could pack a lunch and eat outside.

Below is a video overview of what we saw while we were there:
The other bonus for your 2 hour drive is admission to the museum is FREE! And if your are patient you can score a free parking spot on the mall area.

The Air and Space museum is a lot of fun, we started out on the second floor at the museums newest gallery called Barron Hilton Pioneers of Flight. This gallery contains an assortment of vintage aircraft.

Things to see here include the Fokker T-2, the airplane that made the first nonstop, coast-to-coast flight across the United States; the Douglas World Cruiser Chicago, which completed the first round-the-world flight; a Lockheed Sirius flown by Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh and a Lockheed Vega flown by Amelia Earhart; the Explorer II high-altitude balloon gondola; and "Black Wings," an exhibit on African Americans and aviation.

My family's favorite was the Sea-Air Operations. We loved watching the simulation of the planes taking off and landing on the air craft carrier. You step inside this scaled-down re-creation of a hangar deck bay. The surrounding structures and equipment are from an actual aircraft carrier.

Something for older kids to try is the motion simulator where they can experience the thrill of flight, fun and adventure. You can choose from a Space Walk, Cosmic Coaster, F-18 Experience or Wings simulations. (these do have a fee associate with them)

Kids will also enjoy the How Things Fly gallery. This is very hands on and a great place for the kids to learn how things fly.The exhibits invite you to push, pull, press, lift, slide, handle, touch, twist, turn, spin, bend, and balance. Kids can explore the nature of gravity and air, how wings work, supersonic flight, aircraft and rocket propulsion, flying in space, and more. They can also climb into the cockpit of a Cessna 150 and take the controls.

They have demonstrations that take place throughout the day the kids can participate in. While we were there the kids got to make paper airplanes and play around with different ways to make them fly perfectly.

There is also an IMAX theater that shows different movies throughout the day. You do have to pay a fee to go to the IMAX.

The food court at the museum has a McDonald’s, Boston Market and Donatos Pizzeria. Or you can pack your lunch and eat on the National Mall.

Here is a video of what we saw:
When we arrived at the hotel and walked in we were a little confused but quickly realized that you had to take the elevator to the second floor to check in. We were warmly greeted by the Aloft staff saying Aloha. After a quick check in we took the elevators to our room. My youngest noticed the floor of the elevator changed colors when you stepped on it. This entertained them every time we were in the elevator. Our room was very clean and roomy for a family of 4. Aloft hotels is a new high-design/low-cost brand from Starwood Hotels & Resorts. The hotel and rooms are designed with natural materials and textures like cork and wood, with loft-inspired, 9 foot high guest rooms, state-of-the-art technology, modern amenities, and signature “r & r” beds.

The pool area was nice and easy to get to from our room. It was very open and airy. The pool is not open all day it opens for a few hours in the morning and then a few hours at night. There is a lifeguard on duty and towels are provided (one less thing to pack).

They also have an outdoor area that has a fire pit to keep you warm on the cold nights. This also allows you to look out at the Harbor Area too.

Overall the hotel is very family friendly. There were quite a few families that were there the same time we were. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

The video below highlights the Cape May Lighthouse and Sunset Beach. The lighthouse is an excellent place to take your family. The lighthouse is still a working navigational aid to ships marking the beginning of the Delaware Bay. Admission is $7.00 for adults and $3.00 for kids. The Lighthouse is on the grounds of Cape May Point State Park. This is a beautiful, natural and undisturbed stretch of beach that is free to visitors. However the beach is not watched by lifeguards in all locations.

The video also includes Cape May’s Sunset Beach . This stretch of beach on the Delaware Bay side boasts the best sunsets on the East Coast. I have seen them and it is true. Visit at sunset and you can see the flag ceremony. Visit during the day and take a swim in the bay or play miniature golf at one of the best courses in Cape May. Also you can visit Sunset Grill, a snack stand that offers burgers, fries and other kid’s favorites.

Best Place to Stay Summer or Winter
I haven’t stayed here personally but the Grand Hotel in Cape May has the recipe for fun, an indoor pool. This hotel is footsteps from the beach and the promenade and a short walk from the center of town.

Best Place to Eat With Kids
Cabanas Beach Bar and Grill has never disappointed us. It has a mixture of pub food and steaks and other entrees. And, kids under 4 Eat Free all the time.

The Rusty Nail is another option that offers a laid back vibe, with steel bands and fire pit surrounded by sand that the kids can play in. If you can get a sitter for the kids, this is a great place to hang out for late night drinks around the fire.

Hotel
We stayed at Harrah's Atlantic City, we choose this because it had a kids pool. The pool is small and during spring break it was crowed so we didn't spend much time at the pool. They also have a game room that is adjacent to the pool area. The room we got was a bay view and the kids loved being so high up and checking the view of the water.

Restaurants
We found to 2 very family friendly restaurants while we stayed in Atlantic City. The first was Phillips Seafood located in Pier Shops at Caesars. Phillips Seafood has a kid friendly menu and if your kids are like mine they don't eat seafood but they had burgers and grilled cheese. A tip I can give you is go to Restaurant.com and get a gift certificate, to save a few dollars on the meal. Another plus to the restaurant is it is out in the open and the noise level is loud so the kids will not be bothering the tables around you.

The second restaurant that we loved was Rain Forest Cafe which is located in front of Trump Casino on the boardwalk. This rain forest themed restaurant kept the kids entertained with gorillas and other rain forest animals.

Activities
Pier Shops at Caesars
Since I have 2 girls, they love to shop, so when we went to the Pier Shops to look around there were no complaints. There are 3 floors in the shops with plenty of shops and restaurants for everyone. The second floor has blue lights on the ceiling which the girls thought was so magical and was a perfect setting to dance. They also have a fountain show throughout the day. On the third floor they have Adirondack chairs set up in sand looking out over the beach and the ocean. The Pier Shops also have a candy store called It's Sugar that would be any child's delight! The have a huge Lucy the elephant inside the store made of candy.

Ripley's Believe It Or Not
Ripley's Believe It or Not museum is located on the boardwalk in Atlantic City (at the corner of New York Ave.). We had a chance to visit this very unique museum. The museum has all the odd and unique artifacts that Ripley gathered on his travels around the world. I do have to note that there are a few displays that could frighten small children. My 4 year old and 7 year old were fine but it does depend on your child.

Atlantic City Aquarium
The Atlantic City Aquarium is located at the Historic Gardner's Basin. This is a smaller Aquarium, but that was the best part about it, we could get an up close view of all the aquatic life. Our favorite part was petting the Rays in the touch tank, they were like little puppy dogs that kept coming back for more attention!

The theme behind the Boutique is Fairy Godmothers in Training work their magic on your little princess.

We have been fortunate to go to both but on our recent trip we got to visit the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique inside Cinderella's Castle. My girls were so excited for their princess makeover. When we arrived they were given Royal Invitations that had their names on them. While we were waiting we had the chance to review the 3 choices of hair styles. There are also 3 package types to choose from (you need to decide when you make your reservations)

Girls 3 years old and above can choose from 3 hair styles — Fairytale Princess, Disney Diva and Pop Princess — in 3 available packages:

Coach Package includes hairstyling and shimmering makeup

Crown Package includes hairstyling, shimmering makeup and nails

Castle Package includes the Crown Package plus the Imaging Package (one 6" x 8" and four 4" x 6" photos in a princess-themed photo holder) and complete costume of your choice with accessories

When the princess were called they met their Fairy Godmother who started their magic. I have to say I have never seen my 4 year old sit still for so long. Both of my girls opted for the princess look since they were going to have dinner in the castle. Each girl was given a bag to take home that had nail polish, make up and a comb so you can recreate the princess look at home.Overall we had a wonderful experience at Boutique.

Our Fairy Godmother told us that the hairstyles can last up to 7 days, and can get wait but you may have to do some touch ups. My girls only left it in for one day and then they wanted it out. Also keep in mind to make your reservations early, do not wait until you get to Disney. The packages are pricey and one way to save money is to purchase a princess gown at home, even paint your daughters nails before you arrive or afterwards. I have to say it is worth every penny to see the look of excitement and the joy the little girls have walking around the park decked out like a princess.

If you have a pirate fan in your family you can also join the Pirates Life with Disney's New Pirate League

Summary
My family and I recently traveled to Walt Disney World in Florida, we are a Disney Family and try to head to Disney every few years, it the budget will allows. I have been to Disney over 7 times and I know that there are people out there who have been there way more, but friends and family always seem to come to me for advice on planning their Disney trips. In the next few post I will give you some tips that I have learned along the way when traveling with small children in Disney.

Now onto my review of the Wilderness Lodge, let me start out by saying this is the first time my family and I have stayed at a deluxe resort, we normally stay at the moderate resorts and we have stayed at all of them so we decided to change it up a little this time because Disney was offering such a wonderful rate and package. I choose the Wilderness Lodge because it was so close to the Magic Kingdom, and because it seemed to be more peaceful looking and less congested than the other deluxe resorts.

We arrived at the hotel via the Magical Express and the hotel was beautiful it reminded me of Lincoln Logs that we used to play with as kids. When you walked inside it felt like you were in a log cabin.

The rooms are clean and roomy (for a family of 4) and all rooms have a balcony. When we checked in and went to our room we were greeted by Mickey Towels which my kids loved! Unlike the moderate resorts the Wilderness Lodge has everything in one building, you don't have to leave the building to talk to the concierge or get you meals. This was a nice perk since the weather was so cold while we were there.
What we really liked about staying here was how close we were to the Magic Kingdom, which was a 5 minute boat ride! This also allowed us easy access to Epcot as well, because we would take the boat to Magic Kingdom and then hop on the monorail. For Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios we used the bus system.
We didn't take advantage of the camp program that was offered at the resort, but they did have daily activities. On they days when it was too cold or raining the life guards were in the lobby organizing games and activities for the kids. This was a nice touch. The resort also has boat and bike rentals available for a small fee. The pool was lots of fun for the kids, it has a slide and the pool was also heated which made it more enjoyable since the high each day was in the 50's.

The only downside we experienced while we were there was the front desk staff giving different information every time we asked a question. I was also disappointed that they didn't have wi-fi in the lobby of the hotel and it was very difficult to connect to the internet in the hotel room (frustrating for a blogger).

Overall we had a wonderful time and I would definitely recommend staying at the Wilderness Lodge in Walt Disney World.Fun Things Kidshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01420958938476857409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2799753006480163485.post-6041508084000500872009-11-02T10:02:00.001-05:002011-07-23T11:16:01.974-04:00Williamsburg, VirginaName Of Area

The hotel has 3 pools (1 indoor), tennis courts, playground and walk trail. The hotel is set on a golf course so no matter where your room is located you get a great view. My family and I loved the fact the we were away from all the congestion that you can find in Williamburg at some hotels. we could do the tourist things and then come back to the hotel and relax. The rooms they offer are full suites with kitchens and dinning rooms. They also have rooms 1 room suites

Grand Hyatt New York

Information

Grand Hyatt New York rates on their website start at around $280.00 a night (not necessarily a good deal). We paid about $120.00 a night through Priceline (name your own price). Here's more on how we did it.

Bidding on Priceline: I had never used Priceline before, so I went on the web to find out more about it. I was nervous about getting a bad hotel because you don't know the hotel until you book it. I did some research online, there are several online forums about Priceline bidding. I was able to narrow down the hotels used by Priceline at each star rating in Manhattan. As a rule of thumb I would start your bidding on Priceline at about half the rate. published on the hotels website.

Daily Resort Activities

It's not so much about the resort activities in NYC. All of the hotels have smaller rooms and you'll be hard pressed to find a hotel with a pool. The hotel staff at the Hyatt made all of the difference they were polite and even gave my daughters teddy bears when we checked in.

You go to NYC for the shopping, shows and food. Since travel around NYC by car is difficult you want to look for a hotel in Manhattan. The Hyatt was close to everything, we could walk to 5th Ave, 30 Rock and Times Square.

Money Saving Tip: If you are traveling from the Philadelphia, Delaware, New Jersey area try parking your car at Hamilton Station in New Jersey. Parking + train tickets are often cheaper than nightly parking in NYC. Also, the train is a double-decker train so the kids love it.

What to do in the area

Here is what we did while we were there:

American Girl Place - bring your doll, shop for new clothes, get her ears pierced or hair styled and stay for dinner. Dinner with your dolls seated right at the table was great and contrary to rumors the food was quite good.

Toys R Us Times Square - they have an awesome indoor Ferris Wheel

FAO Schwarz - it's a must see just to say you have been there

Times Square - again it's a must see, go walk around, have lunch at a NY Deli

The Today Show - if you go on a day with no concert or major star you have a good chance of getting on TV. That crowd is not as big as you think.

Duck Boat Tour: it was a lot of fun just don't do it during a heat wave.

Price and Information

Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay has various packages available, below is an example:

We got a great rate of $79.00 a night through http://www.travelzoo.com/ Rates on the Hyatt website start at $159.00 per night. Wow, we got a great deal!!!

We have not yet taken this trip but we will write an update on how the trip went when we get back.

****Trip Update****

We had a great time, the pool was as advertised and they even had an indoor/outdoor hot tub. The kids loved swimming under the glass to go outside. We had two great meals, Jimmie & Sooks (www.jimmieanssooks.com). They had a crabcake BLT that was out of this world. We also went to Canvasback Restaurant. We used a $25.00 gift certificate from (www.restaurant.com) that we paid less than $1.00 for. So we got a great deal, a good meal and excellent service. This was seafood paradise if you like Maryland crab.

I also can not say enough for the hotel staff. They were helpful, friendly and they really made our stay wonderful. This was a favorite low cost, off season, four star vacation and we will be back again.

The only criticism I have is that the cost for food at the resort was way too high. Plan to eat at one of the many great restaurants in Cambridge instead of at the resort.
We take a fall trip every year and we look for one amenity, a super large indoor pool (see picture below). This pool looks like it’s on par with the pool at the Gaylord National Hotel in National Harbor, MD close to DC, which was last year’s fall trip.

There is not a lot to do in Cambridge, Maryland so the pool will be the major focus for this two-day getaway. The hotel on the other hand, looks like it has a lot of amenities for kids, moms and dads including:
We have personal experience staying at this hotel with kids. During Thanksgiving 2008 we booked in for two days for an extended family getaway. There are several criteria we look for in getting away for a few days. An indoor pool, close to some attractions and cheap. Gaylord National usually runs from $150 to $250 a night. We got lucky and got a room for less than $100 because it was a holiday weekend and the hotel was new.
The pool is incredible it is very large for an indoor pool. The kids had a blast playing all day. The lifeguards and hotel staff were very good, polite and courteous and well trained. There is also a spa which we did not take advantage of but it looked very nice.
The room, I have one word for the room, awesome. We were upgraded to an atrium room; it overlooked what basically is a small indoor mall, with plants, landscaping, restaurants and shops. The atrium must be 20 stories high, it is quite a sight. During the holidays they have a light show every hour that you can view from your hotel balcony.

Attractions
The area, National Harbor is still being built but don’t let that stop you from going. The outdoor shopping and restaurant section are open and ready for business. You can also take a ferry boat to Alexandria VA; we did not because it was kind of cold when we went. Of course you’re only a short trip to all DC area attractions.

Overall this is an upscale very nice hotel, lots of marble and architecture to look. It would be an excellent getaway for an extended weekend in warm or cold weather. My advice is look for room bargains it’s worth the trip.
